The Douglas Shire's Planning Scheme

The Douglas Shire's Planning Scheme has been recognized by the Planning
Institute of Australia as the Best Planning Scheme in the state of
Queensland.

The Douglas Shire Planning Scheme

• protects the survival of the Daintree Rainforest and it's fauna, secures the rural landscape and supports our cane industry,
• encourages best agricultural practices, protecting the Great Barrier Reef,
• establishes a limited urban footprint,
• provides for adequate infrastructure.

The Douglas Shire received the Banksia Award for Environmental Excellence in2005 in recognition of its environmental credentials.
