The Friends of the Douglas Shire (FODS) are an apolitical group committed to reversing the State Government's decision to amalgamate the Douglas Shire into the larger Cairns Regional Council thereby restoring our democratic right to determine and protect our social, environmental and cultural values as we have done successfully for the last 103 years.

FODS will also be active in its support for our representatives on transitional and iconic  legislation committees in so far as they do not conflict with our primary goal to remain an independent Shire.

As a group we are calling for support from both within the Shire and from those outside who share our love of this remnant of paradise and our determination to protect our democratic rights.
